That means that we share the same interest in furniture and decorative items with an interesting past and an exciting future. My love for antiques developed in early years back in my home country, Sweden. Ever since I was a little girl my parents used to drag us kids around to different estate auctions and marketplaces to shop for bargain antique or vintage collectibles that would end up back on display in our house. There were old handmade copper pots and pans hanging over our antique kitchen sofa, there were timeworn teacups and kettles of abundance displayed in the Gustavian wall-hanging cupboard next to our dining table, and there was a tall and loud Mora Clock marked anno 1845 standing in the hallway next to an odd looking spinning wheel. |
I did not see the beauty in antiques at first. Why go out and buy “old and used stuff” when there are so many stores where you can locate beautiful, brand new items? Then my mom told me that every item tells a story, has a past, and are slightly different from the next.
The spinning wheel for example used to belong to my great, great grandmother who had then passed it along to the next generation and then to the next. And little did I know, looking more closely at the cursive engraving on the front side of the wheel, one would find the original owners name on it, “Ida”. The same name that was passed on to my mother, and that also became my middle name and later also my daughter’s name.
